Listening for God

My Companion,

We all travel through life in a very hurried pace.  Sometimes we can attend religious services, sometimes, we cannot.  However, we can always take a few minutes to thank God for allowing us to be here, and to serve our respective Grand Bodies.

Thought

A group of pastors who I worked with had just sat down to lunch. As was our custom when a meal was on the table, we held hands to say grace. As I did so, inwardly I heard God say to me, "Go to see Mr. Henry -- now!" I hesitated for a few moments and then told the ministers that I had to leave. I explained why; then I left. They were upset and found it hard to accept my leaving at that very moment, in the middle of prayer.

I ran down the street to Mr. Henry's house. I ran up on the porch and rang the doorbell. There was no reply. I went to the back door and knocked. Still no reply. I opened the kitchen door and shouted, "May I come in?" Then I heard a muffled sound from inside the house.

When I entered the parlor, I saw Mr. Henry on the floor, unable to move. He looked up at me and said, "Where have you been? I have been praying for you to come for half an hour!"

That experience made me wonder how many other times I may have failed to hear God's voice. I am glad I was obedient to God's nudging that day.
Logos

Eli said to Samuel, "Go back to bed; and if he calls you again, say, 'Speak, LORD, your servant is listening.'"
- 1 Samuel 3:9
Closing

At any moment God may call us to an act of caring.
Yes, I have just completed three successive weeks using the same scripture lesson. Each and everyday scripture speaks to us in different ways, and, as the last three weeks have shown, each time it may lead us in all new directions. I hope that this has encouraged you to go back and examine the scripture more deeply, and see the breath, depth, and scope of its meaning.

May YHShVH Bless and Keep You,
